ABOUT PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS

Standing at a height of 451.9 meters, the PETRONAS Twin Towers are not only an architectural marvel but also a symbol of Malaysia's rapid development and ambition. Designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli, these 88-storey skyscrapers were once the tallest buildings in the world and continue to be a beacon of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline.

The towers were built to showcase Malaysia’s growth and potential on the global stage. Each tower is a testament to the country's determination and forward-thinking vision. The structure is inspired by Islamic architecture, reflecting the country’s cultural heritage while embracing modern technology.

Visitors can explore the towers through interactive exhibits that highlight their construction, significance, and the unique features that make them stand out. The Skybridge, located on the 41st and 42nd floors, offers breathtaking views of Kuala Lumpur. The journey continues to the 86th floor, where you can enjoy panoramic vistas of the city and beyond. Whether by day or night, a visit to the PETRONAS Twin Towers is an unforgettable experience.

WORLD'S TALLEST TWIN BUILDING

The original design for the Twin Towers planned for a height of just 1,400 feet (427 meters). However, Dr. Mahathir envisioned something more remarkable—a world-record-setting structure. He urged the architects and engineers to push the limits by adding extra height wherever possible. As a result, the team re-evaluated and tested various structural elements, including extensive wind tunnel tests. Their efforts led to the inclusion of a dome and an integrated pinnacle, elevating the towers to an impressive 1,483 feet (452 meters), ultimately surpassing the Sears Tower in the USA and achieving the title of the world’s tallest buildings.

Petronas Twin Towers Construction

CONSTRUCTION

The construction of PETRONAS Twin Towers took 6 years and cost the country over RM 6 billion (USD $1.6 billion) to complete. With 899,000 square feet of stainless steel extrusions, the building was engineered to withstand the harshest environmental conditions. The towers were designed with over 590,000 square feet of laminated glass to protect the structure from intense heat and UV rays. Cleaning each glass panel would take two months!

WORLD'S LARGEST FOUNDATION

Skyscrapers need strong, deep foundations that penetrate far into the earth. The PETRONAS Twin Towers feature an astounding 120 meters (approximately 400 feet) of solid foundation underneath, ensuring stability and safety for the structure. This foundation was completed in a remarkable 12 months.
